Tsukuba Express (TX)

The Tsukuba Express (TX) connects Tsukuba City to Akihabara in Tokyo in just 45 minutes. The fare is 1,210 yen (1,205 yen if you use an IC card). There are four stations within Tsukuba City. Taking the train is more convenient if you have an IC card such as Suica or PASMO. IC cards can be purchased at ticket vending machines or sales counters in the station.

Express buses

Express bus services operate between the University of Tsukuba and Tokyo Station. The trip takes about 90minutes to Tokyo Station and the fare is 1,260 yen (1,200 yen if you use an IC card). Almost all of the buses travel as far the University of Tsukuba campus. Tokyo-bound buses start from the Administration Center (Tsukuba Daigaku Honbuto Mae bus stop), and travel via the University Hall, University of Tsukuba Hospital, and Tsukuba Center Bus Terminal.
Express buses for Mito, Haneda Airport, Narita Airport, Tokyo Disney Resort® and overnight express buses for Kyoto and Osaka also depart from Tsukuba Center.

Tsukuba City buses

Buses servicing Tsukuba City include Kantetsu-Bus fixed-route services operated by Kanto Railway Co., Ltd. and Tsuku-Bus operated by Tsukuba City. Tsuku-Bus has a three-tiered fare system: 200 yen, 300 yen, and 400yen. As you board the bus from the middle back door, you take a numbered ticket from the machine. You
press the button to get off the bus when your hear the announcement that your destination is the next stop. You disembark from the forward front door of the bus after paying your fare. Please check the route map, timetable, and fares on the bus company’s website.

Tsuku-taku

This is a share taxi operated by Tsukuba City. You can use this service from a location near your home to a specified destination by reserving a taxi in advance for your desired time and date.
• You pay the fare by Tsuku-taku tickets or cash.
• The service operates from 9:00 to 16:00 daily.
• You can reserve a taxi from up to 7 days (5 business days) prior to the day you wish to use the service until just 30 minutes prior to the time you wish to use it.

University of Tsukuba On-Campus transportation system

This system allows the university’s students and staff to use fixed-route bus services operated by Kanto Railway
between Tsukuba Center and the University of Tsukuba campus at a cost of only 19,000 yen per year ( One-way fare from Tsukuba Center to the Tsukuba Daigaku Chuo is generally 280 yen and the fare of the annual commuter pass is 112,900 yen. ) . You can get on and off at any bus stop within this section as often as you wish. To access this system, you will need a bus pass. Please follow procedures for purchasing a bus pass at the university’s Maruzen bookstores on campus.
