If you have health insurance in your own country, please check to see if your medical expenses are covered during your stay overseas. If you are not covered, we recommend that you take out overseas travel casualty insurance prior to your arrival in Japan.
Furthermore, it is a basic obligation for persons who will stay more than 3 months in Japan to join Japan's public insurance scheme. This is a system for reducing the burden of medical expenses, so that when the insured receives medical treatment, out-of-pocket payment is only 30% of the cost. For details, please see "National Health Insurance". However, this insurance scheme does not cover accidents or illness during travel from home country to Japan.
