International Academic Online Conference Held on “Kazakhstan and the Countries of the East: Their Past, Present, and Future”

On May 20, 2021, the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and the University of Tsukuba held an international academic online conference with the theme “Kazakhstan and the Countries of the East: Their Past, Present, and Future,” with presenters from Kazakhstan, Japan, and Uzbekistan. From the University of Tsukuba, Professor ONO Masaki, project leader of the “Project to Establish a Center for Training Japanese Language Teachers to Meet Social Needs” and director of the Almaty Office, and Assistant Professor ITO Hideaki, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, introduced the “Tsukuba Web Corpus”. Dr. Ruth Vanbaelen from the same faculty gave a presentation titled “Definition of Common Sense from the Perspective of Japanese-English and Dutch Contrastive Studies”. NINOMIYA Takashi, coordinator of the Almaty Office and faculty member of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, presented his research on “Prohibited expressions by native speakers of Japanese and learners of Japanese in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan”.
