2017.10.05

On October 5, 2017, Prof. Dr. Michael Hoch, Rector of the University of Bonn, made a courtesy visit to President Kyosuke Nagata.

Bonn, the academic capital of Germany, has its university, as well as the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Research Foundation (DFG) located there. The JSPS Bonn Center and the Bonn Office of the University of Tsukuba were also established there.

The Universities of Bonn and Tsukuba concluded a university-wide agreement in 2011, resulting in an active research and academic exchange program under the “Transnational European and East Asian Culture and History” or TEACH Program, a dual degree program for graduate students in the Master’s Program of the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

The delegation of 11 faculty and staff members from the University of Bonn, included the Rector, the Vice President of International Affairs, and Dean of the Department of Medicine and Life Sciences. They held discussions with President Nagata and Vice President Caroline Benton (Global Affairs) concerning the promotion of further collaborative research and student exchange in the fields of medicine and life sciences. They also extended an invitation to the 200th-anniversary celebration of the University of Bonn scheduled in 2018.

The delegation also toured the Algae Biomass and Energy System (ABES) Research and Development Center and the International Institute for Integrative Sleep Medicine (IIIS), two strategic research institutes of the University of Tsukuba.
