On July 19 during the lunch break, a cultural exchange event “Borderless Online Meeting” was held.

Ms. Ekaterina Leondieva, a student from the Master’s Program in Design at the Graduate School of Comprehensive Human Sciences gave a presentation titled “Festivals and Celebrations in Bulgaria”.

Participants enjoyed conversation in English introducing customs and festivals of their countries to each other.

 

 

 

 

 

TUAN Topics: Exhibition of Three-Dimensional Origami Works by Professor Mitani of the University of Tsukuba

In November 2023, during the 10th-anniversary sister city event between Tsukuba City and Grenoble City, “La Saison Japonaise,” origami workshops featuring three-dimensional origami designed by Professor Mitani of University of Tsukuba were held.

Additionally, posters created by high school students from Lycées André Argouges in Grenoble on the theme of “Tsukuba City” were also displayed in MIG.

These works are currently being exhibited at the Consulate General’s office in Lyon.

TUAN Topics: SUSTAINABILITY HORIZONS: RUB-UT Online Student Symposium

On June 13, 2024, the Online Student Symposium “SUSTAINABILITY HORIZONS”, jointly organized by University of Tsukuba and Ruhr University Bochum, took place.

This event was held as the first step to establish an exchange between the two universities in the field of sustainability.

In the beginning, Prof. Suzuki Iwane, Deputy Director of the Organization for DESIGN THE FUTURE, University of Tsukuba, and Prof. Andreas Löschel, Chief Sustainability Officer of the Ruhr University Bochum, explained the sustainability initiatives of both universities.

Then a member of “Echo UT”, a student group working on sustainability activities on and off campus, from the University of Tsukuba, and a student working at the “Green Office” of the Ruhr University Bochum, which is promoting campus sustainability actions, introduced their respective student-led activities.

At the end of the event, participants shared their views that they were greatly inspired by each other’s activities, that it was a wonderful opportunity for global communication, and that the event reaffirmed the importance of continuing the dialogue on the topic of sustainability.

Based on the legacy of the Tokyo 2020 Games, we will discuss the meaning and potential of sport in society in cooperation with the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs as we consider and implement sport in a form that is more pervasive in social life.

Then, we will hold a send-off party for athletes and staff members who will compete in the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

TUAN Topics:CRICED Attends SEA-Teacher 9th Evaluation Meeting and Presents Achievements and Challenges of the Pilot Program in Japan

More than 70 universities from the Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia gathered for the evaluation meeting of the 9th batch of the SEA-Teacher Program* on June 21 and 22, 2024, to share the results and improvements of the 9th batch of the SEA-Teacher Program.

CRICED, an Affiliate Member of SEAMEO, which currently is the only institution in Japan to participate in this international co-curricular program, participated in the meeting.

In the panel session, many questions were asked from the audience about the implementation of the program outside the SEAMEO region, leading to a lively discussion.

It is expected that University of Tsukuba will continue to promote collaboration with the SEAMEO Secretariat for further expansion of the program in Japan.

 

 

 

 

TUAN Topics: Center for Research on International Cooperation in Educational Development (CRICED), in collaboration with SEAMEO, held a launching orientation for the online course on teacher education to 65 countries

On June 18, 2024, Center for Research on International Cooperation in Educational Development (CRICED), in collaboration with the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO), held an orientation session for the online teacher e-training series (7,664 registration from 65 countries).

The four new courses are for computational thinking, IB, geography, and mathematical thinking, and aim to make a practical contribution to the international standardization of teacher education.

The courses are being developed in collaboration with researchers from various institutions (17 institutions from 10 countries), with researchers of University of Tsukuba playing a central role.

Each course will be progressively delivered over a four-month period from July 3 through the CRICED online platform.

Participants include teachers, teacher educators, and researchers.

 

 

 

 

TUAN Topics: Crisis Management Seminar: Prevention of Infectious Diseases

At the Crisis Management Seminar on June 26, 2024, useful information on how to prevent infectious diseases that you can easily take when going abroad could be learnt.

We will briefly inform you of the content of the seminar.

 

To prevent infection, keep the following points in mind

・Avoid eating raw water, ice, and cut fruits.
・Eat well-fueled, reliable food.
・To avoid mosquito and tick bites, dress carefully and use insect repellent when necessary (especially on exposed skin and the back of the neck).
・Take actions that you will regret for the rest of your life, such as drugs.
・ Avoid intensive contact with people who have any symptoms such as cough, fever, or rash.

Also, before planning an overseas trip, check the vaccinations you have received, and if there are any vaccinations recommended for overseas travel, make sure to get them in plenty of time.

Before traveling, please check the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare Quarantine Station “FORTH” and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan Overseas Safety Web Site for necessary precautions against infectious diseases in individual destinations.

TUAN Topics: Crisis Management Seminar held before the summer break

On June 26, 2024, a seminar on crisis management was held before the summer break.

The seminar included lectures on prevention of infectious diseases, safety management while traveling abroad, and preparation and tips for international travel.

The seminar will be distributed to everyone on campus via manaba at a later date, so please be sure to check it out.

In addition, in order to make the contents of the seminar widely known to those outside the university, we will share useful information transmitted at the seminar.

 

 

 

 

TUAN Topics: 36 Researchers from Khon Kaen University Visited CRICED and Participated in the Research Conference of the Affiliated Elementary School

On June 8 and 9, 2024, 36 researchers from Khon Kaen University visited Dr Masami Isoda, director of CRICED for lesson study research.

They participated in the University of Tsukuba Affiliated Elementary School Research Conference, and observed mathematics and Japanese classes as well as the presentation session by students.

They also participated in the math sectional meeting.

After the conference, lecture was given by Dr Isoda, director of CRICED.

In the reflection session, the participants enjoyed a lively discussion on lesson study.
