From February 6 to March 5, the Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia(SEA-Teacher Project) was held at Senior High School at Sakado, University of Tsukuba, under the coordination of the Center for Research on International Cooperation in Educational Development (CRICED) of the University of Tsukuba. This is a teaching practice promoted by the University of Tsukuba in cooperation with the Southeast Asia Education Ministers Organization (SEAMEO). Six students from the partner schools in Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines came to Japan, and 6 students from the University of Tsukuba were sent to each partner school, 2 to each country.

On February 27 and 28,the 12th Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization(SEAMEO)-University of Tsukuba Symposium was held at the University of Tsukuba. The symposium, which focused on educational applications of generative AI, attracted 14,380 registered participants from 60 countries. For online participants, multiple languages interpretation including Indonesian, Khmer, Thai, Malay, and Burmese was provided.

On March 5, a symposium titled “Next stage of Japanese society pioneered by universities; how to develop human resources as global leaders who co-create the next generation” was held at the University of Tsukuba Tokyo Campus. In the part of this program, organized by Japan Forum for Internationalization of Universities, associate professor Ohniwa delivered a presentation on the progress and foresight of Japan Virtual Campus (JV-Campus), looking into its full-scale launch.

On February 28, University of Tsukuba Kabuki-kai performed a modernized Kabuki “Futatsumine Aino Chikunami (Traveling Waves From The Twin Peaks of Mt.Tsukuba)” based on a traditional local story. This event was organized by Kato “Tim” Yusuke, School of Human Sciences College of Disability Sciences and realized with the support of Tsukuba Action Project (T-ACT)

The Bureau of Global Initiatives of the University of Tsukuba invited high school students from Peru as part of JST Sakura Science Program and conducted a field trip to observe manufacturing in Kitakyushu. The trip provided opportunities to learn and think about the manufacturing method in the new era, visiting TOTO Museum and Neji Choco Laboratory that produces chocolates in shape of screws, symbol of Kitakyushu known for its steel products.

The Bureau of Global Initiatives of the University of Tsukuba invited high school students from Peru as part of JST Sakura Science Program and conducted a field trip to Kyoto to introduce the formation of historical townscapes, the sustainability of the historic city of Kyoto, and resilience and adaptability to disasters.
