TUAN Topics: CRICED Holds 17th APEC Tsukuba University International Conference on the Theme of Computational Thinking

Center for Research on International Cooperation in Educational Development (CRICED) held the 17th APEC-University of Tsukuba International Conference ( supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, MEXT) on April 18, 2024.

Since 2006, this conference has been held as part of the APEC Human Resource Development Project promoted by CRICED and its partner institution, Khon Kaen University, Thailand.

The theme of this year’s project is Online Workshops for Lesson Study 2.0: Unplugged Computational Thinking in APEC Economies, and this first workshop focused on the primary education level.

Together with the development of the booklet, the workshop tried to answer the following questions:

“How can we develop computational thinking without using computers?”
“What basic informatics content is suitable for primary school level?”
“How can we fit these lessons into our curriculum schedules?”

Participants from 13 APEC economies deepened their knowledge of Unplugged Computational Thinking from various angles.

TUAN Topics: Univeristy of Tsukuba and University of Washigton Forge AI Partnership with NVIDIA and Amazon

University of Tsukuba and University of Washington have entered into a landmark partnership in collaboration with and funded by NVIDIA and Amazon.

This Japan-US partnership is aimed at fostering research, human resource development, entrepreneurship, and social implementation in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

The agreement was announced on April 9th in Washington D.C., where representatives from both universities and collaborating U.S. corporations participated in a signing ceremony.

“Student Commons’ SDGs RECYCLING PROJECT,” a project to collect ‘still-useable unused items’ and give them to students,

including new students for free, is taking place in the Student Commons, a space for students to interact with each other.

(Monday, April 4 through Friday, April 12. The project will end when all items run out.)

TUAN Topics: Students from the Bordeaux Institute of Technology came to Japan

The students participating in the Tsukuba Short-term Study Program (TSSP) from the Bordeaux Institute of Technology, arrived in Japan, and Associate Professor Aranha Claus de Castro, who is in charge of the program, conducted an orientation session.

The orientation was also attended by the students of the University of Tsukuba who participated in an internship at the Bordeaux Institute of Technology in March.

One of the students from the Bordeaux Institute of Technology, said that she was really looking forward to coming to Japan and looked happy to see the students of the University of Tsukuba again in Japan.
