University of Tsukuba Organization for DESIGN THE FUTURE and the Office of Global Initiatives the Bureau of Global Initiatives, in cooperation with
the University of Bochum, Germany (Campus in Campus agreement), will hold an online student symposium SUSTAINABILITY HORIZONS.
This event will be the first step in a series of exchanges between University of Tsukuba and Bochum University in the field of sustainability.
University of Tsukuba Organization for DESIGN THE FUTURE and the Green Office of the University of Bochum, both leaders in SDG initiatives, will
introduce their campus sustainability activities, mainly led by students.

On May 29, 2024, 21 experts in Science Education and Science & Mathematics Olympiad from Thailand led by Dr. Boonrucksar, Executive Advisor of
the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand, Ministry of Higher Education Science, Technology and Innovation, visited CRICED.
After an introduction of University of Tsukuba and CRICED’s activities, they exchanged opinions on the possibility of future collaboration in the field
of science and mathematics education in a friendly atmosphere. They also visited the University’s Plasma Research Center and exchanged
information on plasma research.

On May 20, a delegation of about 40 members from Brazilian Institution SEMESP (Sindicato dos Estabelecimentos de Ensino no Estado de Sao Paulo),
led by Prof. Rodrigo Capelato, Executive Director of SEMESP and Prof. Alexandre Uehara of ESPM (Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing),
visited University of Tsukuba.
On May 18 and 19, the 48th Spring Sports Day was held at the Tsukuba Campus.
Since the first University of Tsukuba Sports Day was held in 1977, soon after the university opened, it has been held twice a year for two days each in the spring and fall, and is a traditional event unique to the University of Tsukuba where students and faculty can enjoy sports together.
Many students worked on the planning and preparation for the event as the Sports Day Student Committee, and the number of participants increased compared to last spring.
In September 2023, the University’s Inclusive Smart Society Program (ISS Program) was selected by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) for its “Project for Strengthening Universities’ Global Development Capabilities” – Support for Formation of Inter-University Exchange with the United States and other countries. The ISS program is an educational program that fosters international start-up talents to create a society (=Inclusive Smart Society) where people with diverse backgrounds such as age, gender, region, language, and disabilities can play a leading role equally based on innovative technology, in cooperation with Ohio State University (OSU) in the United States. The program is an educational program to nurture international start-up talents to create a society where people of diverse backgrounds such as age, gender, region, language, and disability can play a leading role equally (=Inclusive Smart Society) based on innovative technology.
Since last year, we have been making detailed preparations with OSU, and in March, our faculty and students visited OSU to discuss specific management methods, etc. The educational program was launched in April 2024.
As early as this past May, we hosted OSU students from the Institute of Health and Sport Science engineering departments as a short program and actively interacted with our students in adapted sports and other activities.
The Embassy of Turkmenistan in Japan has announced the upcoming Turkmenistan Cultural Concert to be held on the evening of June 14 (Friday) at Nova Hall.
Details are as follows.
This concert is organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Japan to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the birth of the Turkmen poet Magtumguri.
About 25 singers and dancers from Turkmenistan will perform songs and dances.
