TUAN Topics: Director of the Southeast Asian Education Ministers Organization (SEAMEO) visits President Nagata

On May 13, 2024, Datuk Dr. Habibah Abdul Rahim, director of SEAMEO, Mr. John Arnold Siena, deputy director for programme and
development of SEAMEO, and Dr. Anis Alisya Abdullah, senior deputy rector of the Institute of Teacher Eductaion Malaysia, Ministry of Education Malaysia, visited Dr Kyosuke Nagata, president of University of Tsukuba to exchange views on further collaboration.

During their courtesy visit to Dr Nagata, SEAMEO agreed to strengthen the cooperative relationship between SEAMEO and Japanese higher education institutions through realization of the establishment of a consortium, setting University of Tsukuba as a hub.

ODA Tatsuya of University Hospital, held a signing ceremony of a Letter of Intent (LOI) regarding the training of young doctors with Mr. Renato

ISHIKAWA, Chair of the Board of Santa Cruz Japanese Hospitaland Dr. Koshiro NISHIKUNI, President of Santa Cruz Japanese Hospitalin São Paulo.

The following day, University of Tsukuba delegation met Rector Carlos Gilberto Carlotti Junior of University of São Paulo, signing another LOI for

organizing the Japan-Brazil University Rectors’ Summit.

Prime Minister KISHIDA welcomed this initiative in his remarks and expressed his hope that academic exchange between the two countries will be

strengthened in the future.

On May 10, a reunion was held in Seoul, South Korea.

7 former international students from Korea attended and shared their memories of student life at University of Tsukuba and their lives in Korea.

This is an opportunity to build and launch the Korea Alumini Association.

This year, in the “Spring Conferment of Decorations,” our graduate Dr. James Chukwuma Ogbonna, for his contributions to academic exchange and mutual understanding in the agricultural field between Japan and Nigeria, and Dr. Karam Khalil for his contributions to academic exchange and mutual understanding between Japan and Egypt, have won The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon.

The Center for Computational Sciences (CCS) at the University of Tsukuba has solidified a significant partnership with the Big Data for Smart Society (GATE) Institute, situated at Sofia University in Bulgaria. The agreement, signed on April 26, 2024, marks a milestone in fostering collaboration between academic institutions in advancing research and innovation in the fields of big data and artificial intelligence (AI).
