2022.03 : Japanese Online Speech Contest Held in Kazakhstan

On March 12, 2022, the 24th Kazakhstan Japanese Language Speech Contest was held under the joint sponsorship of the Kazakhstan Japanese Language Teachers Association and the Embassy of Japan in Kazakhstan. Dr. NINOMIYA Takashi, Almaty Office coordinator attended the competition as one of the judges, and University of Tsukuba provided prizes to the participants of the speech contest in the form of sponsorship. Fourteen students from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Kazakh Ablai Khan University of International Relations and World Languages, L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, and the Kazakhstan-Japan Center for Human Development participated in the contest and delivered speeches in Japanese.

2022.02 : 4th Symposium on “Future-oriented Japanese Language Education”

On February 16th, 2021, Prof. ONO Masaki, director of the University of Tsukuba Almaty Office and who is also affiliated to the Center for Education of Global Communication (CEGLOC) of the University of Tsukuba, hosted the 4th Symposium on “Future-oriented Japanese Language Education” with the theme of flipped teaching, classroom activities, and teaching materials development, with presenters from Japan and overseas. Dr. NINOMIYA Takashi, Almaty Office coordinator, gave a presentation on the “Interim Report on the Project of Online Teaching Materials of Japanese for Tourism developed by Japanese Language Teachers of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Kazakh National University.”

2021.12 : JASSO-organized Webinar to introduce Study in Japan Global Network Project

On December 7th, 2021, the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) held a webinar for Japanese higher educational institutions as a part ofto introduce the Study in Japan Global Network Project of MEXT in Russia and CIS countries. As the From the University of Tsukuba and Hokkaido University, Sasayama Hiroshi (Office of Global Initiatives) are coordinators of the “Study in Japan Global Network Project in Russia and CIS countries”, Dr. NINOMIYAinomiya Takashi, University of Tsukuba Almaty Office coordinator and professor at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, presented about the “Educational context in Kazakhstan.” He explained the situation of primary and secondary education in that country and the study abroad situation, the relationship between the Almaty office of Uthe university of Tsukuba and Japanese universities, and the features of organizations for Japanese language education in Kazakhstan, such as that of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Some of the questions asked by participants are the following: “What is the percentage of enrollment in higher education institutions and the percentage of wealthy people in Kazakhstan?” and “What kind of approach is effective when promoting universities in the Russia and CIS countries?”

2021.12 : International Meeting with Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University

On December 6, 2021, Rector Zhanseit Tuymebaev of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held an exchange meeting with foreign professors and scientists teaching at the university. The meeting was attended by scientists from almost 30 countries of the world online and offline. Dr. Takashi Ninomiya (Almaty Office Coordinator, Professor, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University) from University of Tsukuba gave a presentation on educational and research exchange between the two universities. The exchange between Kazakh National University and University of Tsukuba dates back 15 years. During that time, many students from both universities studied abroad at the other. Currently, Kazakh National University is participating in the Campus-in-Campus project and is trying to create a stronger partnership than ever. At the end of the presentation, Dr. Professor Ninomiya introduced the Japanese learning project for tourism in Kazakhstan that faculty members from both universities have been working on since 2021.

2021.11 : Academic Seminar in Methods of Language Education Held

On November 26th, 2021, an academic seminar in methods of language education was organized by the Faculty of Pre-University Education of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Language teachers from Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz, and Turkey made presentations on language teaching methods and teaching materials. From Japan, Prof. NINOMIYA Takashi of KazNU and University of Tsukuba Almaty Office coordinator introduced the Japanese learning project for tourism in collaboration with Prof. ONO Masaki of the Faculty of the Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Tsukuba. With support from the Toshiba International Foundation, this project aims to create an online Japanese course in Kazakhstan tourism for Kazakh Japanese learners. In the course, the learners will practice sentence structures, listening, and conversation. This project focuses on explanatory practice, an important skill for travel guides, and “research and presentation” in which learners rediscover common knowledge about Kazakhstan that they may already think they know.

2021.11 : Online Study in Japan Fair for Kazakhstan and Kyrgyz

The Japan Centers in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan and the Study in Japan Global Network Project (Russia and CIS region) co-hosted a Study in Japan Fair from November 13th -19th , 2021.
A total of 18 Japanese universities and Japanese language schools participated in the fair. More than 1,300 students from Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan joined information sessions on studying in Japan. The University of Tsukuba was represented by Asst. Prof. SASAYAMA Hiroshi, staff members from the Office of Global Initiatives, NINOMIYA Takashi, Almaty Office coordinator and professor at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, and Mozgunova Aleksandra of the Moscow Liaison Desk. They explained the undergraduate and graduate English programs in medical science, informatics, international relations, public health, etc. at the University of Tsukuba, as well as the required Japanese or English language level for admission, and how to obtain scholarships. About 80 participants visited the University of Tsukuba’s booth.

2021.11 : Introducing Activities of the University of Tsukuba Almaty Office in Career Design Course

On November 9th, 2021, Prof. NINOMIYA Takashi of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and coordinator of the University of Tsukuba Almaty Office Coordinator gave a presentation during the lecture on “Introduction to Career Design” at the the University of Tsukuba. He explained to about 70 undergraduate students the activities of the Almaty office and the effects of the Covid-19 infection on society and universities in Kazakhstan. Moreover, as part of Prof. NINOMIYA’s presentation, students from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, including Aisautova Aibany and Zhalmykhambet Sholpan (both 4th year undergraduate students) and Kanapiya Aitolkyn (2nd year master’s student) talked about their future plans for studying the the Japanese language. Students from the University of Tsukuba asked questions such as “What similarities do Japan and Kazakhstan have?”, “What are your challenges in learning the Japanese language?” and “What kind of social problems does Kazakhstan facehave?”

2021.10 : University of Tsukuba joins International Education Fair 2021 organized by Bolashaq Development Fund

On October 26th-29th, 2021, Asst. Prof. SASAYAMA Hiroshi, project coordinator and Yahiro Tatiana (Office of Global Initiatives), Study in Japan Global Network Project, Prof. NINOMIYAinomiya Takashi, University of Tsukuba Almaty Office coordinator based at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Mozgunova Aleksandra of the Moscow Liaison Desk, and Yahiro Tatiana of the Office of Global Initiatives, participated in the International Education Fair (IEF2021) organized by the Bolashaq Development Fund. Our faculty and staff members explained the processes and procedures of entry to a Japanese university or graduate school, and participating students inquired about English programs in the fields of architecture, international relations, energy such as oil and natural gas, and about application procedures for Japanese MEXT scholarships.

2021年05月 : International Academic Online Conference Held on “Kazakhstan and the Countries of the East: Their Past, Present, and Future”

On May 20, 2021, the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and the University of Tsukuba held an international academic online conference with the theme “Kazakhstan and the Countries of the East: Their Past, Present, and Future,” with presenters from Kazakhstan, Japan, and Uzbekistan. From the University of Tsukuba, Professor ONO Masaki, project leader of the “Project to Establish a Center for Training Japanese Language Teachers to Meet Social Needs” and director of the Almaty Office, and Assistant Professor ITO Hideaki, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, introduced the “Tsukuba Web Corpus”. Dr. Ruth Vanbaelen from the same faculty gave a presentation titled “Definition of Common Sense from the Perspective of Japanese-English and Dutch Contrastive Studies”. NINOMIYA Takashi, coordinator of the Almaty Office and faculty member of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, presented his research on “Prohibited expressions by native speakers of Japanese and learners of Japanese in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan”.

2021年04月 : Oriental Studies Olympiad 2021 in Kazakhstan

On April 26, 2021, the “Oriental Studies Olympiad 2021” was held under the auspices of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The Oriental Studies Olympiad is held every year as an opportunity for students studying the societies, histories, and cultures of Oriental countries at the Oriental Studies Departments in Kazakh universities to showcase the results of their studies. Sushy Aruzhan, a third-year student at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, gave a presentation on “International Relations between Japan and Kazakhstan” and won first place. In addition to certificates, prizes were awarded to the top performers. The University of Tsukuba provided prizes to the participants of the speech contest as one of the sponsors.

2021年04月 : University of Tsukuba Joins Online Education Fair in Central Asia

On April 21, 2021, an online education exhibition for students in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan was held by the Begin Group, a Germany-based student recruitment company. Some staff members from the University of Tsukuba’s Bureau of Global Initiatives as well as NINOMIYA Takashi, coordinator of the Almaty Office, participated in this event within the framework of the “Study in Japan Global Network Project”. They introduced how to study at Japanese universities and graduate schools. Approximately 130 people visited the university’s booth and about 60 institutions from all over the world participated in the exhibition.

2021年04月 : International Online Conference Held on Language Teaching Methods During the Pandemic

On April 16, 2021, the Uzbekistan State University of World Languages held an international scientific-practical online conference with the theme “Foreign Language Teaching Methods in the Age of Pandemic” with invited presenters from Uzbekistan and overseas. From the University of Tsukuba, Professor ONO Masaki, project leader of the “Project to Establish a Center for Training Japanese Language Teachers to Meet Social Needs” and director of the Almaty Office, gave a lecture on “Transforming Japanese Communication Skills for a New Era.” Dr. NINOMIYA Takashi, coordinator of the Almaty Office and a faculty member of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, also participated in the workshop.

2020年12月 : AL-FARABI CENTER OPENS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TSUKUBA

On December 22, 2020, the opening ceremony of the Al-Farabi Center was held at the University of Tsukuba. The relations between Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and the University of Tsukuba started with the signing of an academic exchange agreement in 2007. In 2019, a Campus-in-Campus program agreement was signed. Under that program, an office of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University would be set up at the University of Tsukuba. The office would be to utilized this office as an Al-Farabi Center for developing educational and research exchanges between the two universities, based on the ideas of Al-Farabi “great thinker of the Orient”.
At the opening ceremony, President Kyosuke Nagata of the University of Tsukuba, Ambassador Yerlan Baudarbek-Kozhatayev of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Japan, and Rector Galimkair Mutanov of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University expressed their congratulations. Rector Mutanov said that he is delighted to open the Al-Farabi Center during the 1150th birth anniversary of Abu Nasr Al-Farabi.

2020年12月22日、筑波大学内においてAl-Farabi Centerの開所式が行われました。2007年にカザフ国立大学と筑波大学の間で学術交流協定結ばれ、両大学間の教育、研究、文化交流が始まりました。2019年には、Campus-in-campusプログラムの協定が結ばれました。そのプログラムのもと、カザフ国立大学のオフィスが筑波大学内に設置されることになりました。カザフ国立大学はこのオフィスをAl-Farabi Centerとして活用し、東洋の偉大な思想家であるAl-Farabiの思想に従って、両大学間の教育・研究交流を発展させることを目指しています。
開所式では、筑波大学の永田恭介学長、駐日カザフスタン大使館Yerlan Baudarbek-Kozhatayev大使、アルファラビ・カザフ国立大学のGalimkair Mutanov学長が祝辞を述べました。Mutanov学長からは「アブー・ナスル・アルファラビの生誕1150周年という節目にAl-Farabi Centerを開設できたことをうれしく思う」という発言がありました。
テープカット・セレモニーの後、カザフ国立大学のAliya Massalimova哲学・政治学部長が「アブー・ナスル・アルファラビと人類の知恵に対する彼の貢献」というテーマで講演を行い、Mukhambetkali Burkitbayev第一副学長が閉会の辞を述べました。

2020年12月 : ONLINE LECTURE HELD FOR NAZARBAYEV INTELLECTUAL SCHOOL

On December 14, 2020, the University of Tsukuba and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held an online lecture to high school students of Nazarbayev Intellectual School. About 90 students and their parents participated. Assistant Professor Sasayama, who was a coordinator of the “Study in Japan Global Network Project, Regional Office in Russia and CIS”, talked about the attractive points of studying at a Japanese university, and the programs of the University of Tsukuba. Similarly, Professor Ito Hironori (Office of Global Initiatives) gave a lecture in Japanese for the students. Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Borankulova Samal (Senior Lecturer) and Ninomiya Takashi (Coordinator, Almaty Office) introduced the Japanese language course of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and explained study abroad procedures to Japan from the university.

2020年12月14日、筑波大学とカザフ国立大学がオンライン形式でナザルバエフ知的学校に対して、出張授業を行いました。当日、約90名の生徒とその保護者が参加しました。日本留学海外拠点連携推進事業(ロシア・CIS地域)コーディネーターの笹山啓助教(国際室)が日本の大学で勉強する魅力、筑波大学のプログラムについて説明しました。また同じく国際室の伊藤広宣教授が知的学校の生徒のために、日本語のミニ講義を実施しました。カザフ国立大学のBorankulova Samal上級講師と二ノ宮崇司コーディネーターがカザフ国立大学東洋学部日本語講座を紹介し、カザフ国立大学から日本の大学へ留学する方法について説明しました。生徒からは、ITの専門分野を勉強できるのか、筑波大学に入るにはどんな試験があるのか、外国人への奨学金はあるのかといった質問が寄せられました。

2020年11月 :KICK-OFF SYMPOSIUM HELD ON THE PROJECT OF “HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT HUB FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF JAPANESE LANGUAGE EDUCATION SPECIALISTS”

On November 14, 2020, the kick-off symposium on the project “Human Resource Development Hub for the Next Generation of Japanese Language Education Specialists” was held on online. Prof. Ono Masaki, symposium organizer, explained the purpose of the symposium which was attended by representatives from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Cairo University, Uzbek State University of World Languages, and Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City. The universities are closely related to the University of Tsukuba in terms of Japanese language education. From Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Prof. Mukhambetkali Burkitbayev (First Vice-Rector) expressed his congratulatory remarks. In the keynote speech, Professor Emeritus Andrej Bekesh (University of Ljubljana) gave a lecture on the difficulty of online education surrounding Japanese society after the spread of Covid-19. After that, Ninomiya Takashi (Almaty Office Coordinator) provided a presentation on “Building joint education systems between Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and Japanese universities”. About 80 people joined the symposium on the day.

2020年11月14日、キックオフシンポジウム「社会的要請に対応可能な日本語教師養成の拠点形成」がオンライン上で行われました。シンポジウムの主催者である小野正樹教授が趣旨説明を行い、日本語教育という点で筑波大学と関係の深いカザフ国立大学、ウズベキスタン国立世界言語大学、カイロ大学、ベトナム国家大学ホーチミン市師範大学の代表者から開催の祝辞が述べられました。カザフ国立大学からはBurkitbayev第一副学長が祝辞を述べました。基調講演では、新型コロナウイルスの蔓延以降の日本社会を取り巻くオンライン教育の難しさについて、Andrej Bekesh名誉教授(リュブリアナ大学)が講演されました。その上で、カザフ国立大学の二ノ宮崇司コーディネーターが「カザフ国立大学と日本の大学との共同教育体制の構築」ということで、話題提供をしました。当日、約80名の日本語教育関係者がこのシンポジウムに参加しました。

2020年11月 :CAMPUS-IN-CAMPUS (CIC) EDUCATION MANAGEMENT MEETING HELD ONLINE

The CiC Management-Level Meeting in Education was held on November 9, 2020 with representatives from the University of Tsukuba, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, University of Grenoble Alpes, University of California Irvine, and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia participating. From Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Prof. Assel Mussinova (Director, Institute of New Education Technology) and Ninomiya Takashi (Coordinator, Almaty Office, University of Tsukuba) attended the meeting. During the meeting, Prof. Mussinova explained the online education situation at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University where they use online platforms such as Zoom, Teams, and KazNU Univer. She focused on a system called Moocs.kz, a mixed online teaching platform with videos, assignments and tests built by 30 universities in Kazakhstan and two universities in Russia.

2020年11月9日、CiC 教育マネージメント会議が行われました。会議には、筑波大学、カザフ国立大学、グルノーブル大学、カリフォルニア大学アーバイン、マレーシア工科大学などの代表者が参加しました。カザフ国立大学からはMussinova Assel (カザフ国立大学新型教育技術院所長)、二ノ宮崇司 (筑波大学アルマトイオフィス・コーディネーター) が参加しました。会議では、Mussinova所長が “Online courses in the educational process: development and integration into the discipline” と題して、カザフ国立大学のオンライン教育事情を説明しました。カザフ国立大学では、Zoom, Teams, KazNU Univerなどのオンラインプラットフォームが使われていますが、発表では、その中でも、Moocs.kzというシステムに焦点が当てられました。これはカザフスタンの30大学とロシアの2つの大学が構築してきたビデオ、課題、テストによる混合オンライン授業プラットフォームです。

2020年10月 :INTRODUCING THE ALMATY OFFICE IN CAREER DESIGN COURSE

On November 4, 2020, Dr. Ninomiya Takashi (University of Tsukuba Almaty Office Coordinator, Professor of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University) gave a presentation during the lecture on “Introduction to Career Design” at the University of Tsukuba. He explained to about 100 undergraduate students the activities of the Almaty office in Kazakhstan and the effects of the Covid-19 infection on society and universities in Kazakhstan. From Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Sailau Khakim (2nd year undergraduate student) and Umeshova Meryert (1st year master’s student) talked about their future plans after studying the Japanese language. Students from the University of Tsukuba asked questions such as “How did you study the local language (Kazakh)?”, and “What should you do if you get homesick?”

筑波大学の「キャリアデザイン入門」という授業で、2020年11月4日、二ノ宮崇司 コーディネーター(筑波大学アルマトイオフィス、カザフ国立大学招聘教授) が「海外で学ぶこと・働くこと:筑波大学アルマトイオフィスとのライブ中継」と題して、オンラインで筑波大学の約100名の学生に対して、カザフスタン、アルマトイオフィスの活動、カザフスタンの社会・大学における新型コロナウイルス感染症の影響などについて説明しました。また当日、カザフ国立大学のSailau Khakim (学部2年生) とUmeshova Meryert (修士1年生) が日本語を勉強したきっかけ、自分の将来像について語ってくれました。筑波大学の学生からは、「現地語 (カザフ語) をどうやって勉強したのか?」、「ホームシックにかかったらどうずればよいのか?」といった質問が寄せられました。

2020年10月 :THE 7TH INTERNATIONAL CAMPUS-IN-CAMPUS BOARD-LEVEL MEETING HELD ONLINE

On October 21, 2020, representatives from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, National Taiwan University, Sao Paulo University, Utrecht University, University of Grenoble Alpes, Ohio State University, Bochum University, University of California Irvine, and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia attended the 7th CiC Board-Level meeting. From Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Prof. Mukhambetkali Burkitbayev (First Vice-Rector), Abdyman Zhaniya (Office of International Program), and Ninomiya Takashi (Almaty Office Coordinator) participated. At the meeting, agenda items included the virtual research unit, virtual student exchange program, and industry-university collaboration – various efforts undertaken since the outbreak of the new coronavirus. In the explanation of the virtual student exchange program, it was mentioned that 11 students from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University have been taking Japanese and English courses at the University of Tsukuba from October 2020.

2020年09月 :RESEARCHER MATCHING PROJECT 2020

On September 29-30, 2020, as part of Tsukuba Global Science Week, the Researcher Matching Project was held online. This is an initiative to promote collaborative research among Campus-in-Campus partner universities. Faculty members from the Faculty of Oriental Studies and the Faculty of Physics and Technology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University participated in the event. However, there is a need to promote the project within the university to increase the number of participants in this project next time.

2020年9月29日、30日、Tsukuba Global Science Weekの一環として、Researcher Matching Projectがオンラインで行われました。これはCampus-in-campusにおける共同研究促進のための取り組みです。参加者は3つの質問を書いて、自分の研究分野に関心をもってもらい、共同研究者を探すというイベントです。カザフ国立大学からは、東洋学部、物理学部の教員が参加しました。残念ながら、カザフ国立大学の参加者はわずかでした。しかし、参加者からは、「大変良いプロジェクトであるため、カザフ国立大学内での宣伝をしっかりして、このプロジェクトへの参加者を増やしていきたい」という意見が出ました。

2020年09月 :JAPANESE ONLINE SPEECH CONTEST HELD IN KAZAKHSTAN

On September 5, 2020, the 22nd Japanese Online Speech Contest was held by the Kazakhstan Association of Teachers of Japanese. Eleven students joined the speech contest representing the following institutions: Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Kazakh Ablai Khan University of International Relations and World Languages, L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Ichikawa Japanese Language School, and the Kazakhstan-Japan Center for Human Development.

2020年9月5日、カザフスタン日本語教師会、在カザフスタン日本国大使館、カザフ国際関係外国語大学の共催のもと、第22回カザフスタン日本語弁論大会が開催されました。本大会は2020 年 2 月 29 日に実施予定でしたが、新型コロナウイルスの影響により、ビデオ審査という形で開催することとなりました。カザフ国立大学、カザフ国際関係外国語大学、ユーラシア国立大学、市川アルマティ教室、カザフスタン日本人材開発センターの学生11名が大会に参加し、日本語でスピーチを行いました。一位はMusayeva Yasminaさん(カザフスタン日本人材開発センター)の「自分だけの道がある (My own way)」、二位はTleimurat Azamatさん(カザフ国際関係外国語大学)の「力を与える日本語 (Japanese langauge empowers me)」、三位はZhumatayeva Azizaさん(ユーラシア国立大学)の「日本での発見(Discovery in Japan)」、四位はZhunis Farizaさん(カザフ国立大学)の「みんなが知っている (Everyone knows)」、五位はNurlan Aydanaさん(カザフ国立大学)の「天才は1%のひらめきと99%の汗 (Genius is one per cent inspiration and ninety-nine per cent perspiration)」でした。筑波大学は協賛という形で、弁論大会の参加者に景品を提供しました。

2020年06月 :CAMPUS-IN-CAMPUS (CIC) PARTNERS HOLD ONLINE WORKING-LEVEL MEETING

On June 25, 2020, representatives from the University of Tsukuba, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, The Ohio State University, University of Grenoble Alpes, Utrecht University, and Ruhr-Universität Bochum participated in an online CiC Working-Level meeting among partners. Aizhan Smailova (Director, Department of International Cooperation), Abdyman Zhaniya (Office of International Program), and Ninomiya Takashi (Almaty Office Coordinator, University of Tsukuba) represented Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Discussions at the meeting revolve around, each university’s physical or cyber countermeasures against Covid-19, future educational policies (for example, virtual study abroad, utilization of course jukebox), and future research policies.

2020年06月 :UNIVERSITY OF TSUKUBA JOINS BEGIN GROUP’S ONLINE EDUCATION FAIR

On June 9, 2020, the University of Tsukuba participated in an online education fair (for students in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. The event was organized by the Begin Group, a German-based company that supports student recruitment activities. Faculty and staff of the university participated in the faire as part of the “Study in Japan Global Network Project” and they explained how to study abroad at Japanese universities and graduate schools. About 50 organizations from all over the world participated on the day.

新型コロナウイルスの蔓延により、世界的にオンラインでのイベントが普及している中、2020年6月9日、筑波大学は「日本留学海外拠点連携推進事業(ロシア・CIS拠点)」の活動の一環として、Begin group主催のオンライン教育展(カザフスタン、キルギス、ウズベキスタンの学生向け)に参加しました。。国際室からは八尋タチアナ 、矢内理恵子、地引紀子 、アルマトイオフィスから二ノ宮崇司 、モスクワリエゾンデスクからミソチコ・グリゴリーが参加し、日本の大学、大学院への留学方法などについて説明しました。当日、世界から約50の組織が参加しました。参加者たちからは、「日本ではどんな専門が勉強できるのか?」「奨学金付きでマネージメントをどうやって勉強できるのか?」「Mextの奨学金を獲得するにはどうすればよいのか?」といった質問がありました。

2020年04月 :ONLINE MEETING SESSIONS ON THE CENTER FOR JAPANESE LANGUAGE EDUCATION AND RESEARCH TEACHER TRAINING IN ASIA AND AFRICA

The University of Tsukuba was selected as a core organization of “The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Core-to-Core Program, B. Asia-Africa Science Platforms”, and Prof. Ono Masaki (Faculty of the Humanities and Social Sciences) was selected as the coordinator of this project.
On April 10, 2020, Prof. Ono explained the aim of the project “Human Resource Development Hub for the Next Generation of Japanese Language Education Specialists” to faculty members of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Cairo University, Uzbek State University of World Languages, and Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City. As part of this research project, the challenges of Japanese language education in Egypt, Uzbekistan, etc. were presented. On June 19, 2020, Takashi Ninomiya (University of Tsukuba, Almaty Office Coordinator) gave a presentation about the status and future vision of Japanese language teachers in Kazakhstan.

2020年4月10日、筑波大学アルマトイオフィス所長でもある小野教授がカザフ国立大学、カイロ大学、ウズベキスタン国立世界言語大学、ベトナム国家大学ホーチミン市師範大学の教員、大学院生に対して、研究拠点形成事業(B.アジア・アフリカ学術基盤形成型)「社会的要請に対応可能な日本語教師養成の拠点形成」プロジェクトの趣旨説明を行いました。そのプロジェクトでは、将来世界的に必要とされる日本語教師をどうやって養成するのかが研究課題として設定されています。その研究の一環として、エジプト、ウズベキスタンなどでの日本語教育の課題が提示されました。2020年6月19日、二ノ宮崇司 (筑波大学アルマトイオフィス・コーディネーター) が「カザフスタンで求められる日本語教師」と題して、現在、カザフスタンで働いている日本語教師の現状と将来像について発表しました。

2020年03月 6TH INTERNATIONAL STUDENT FORUM HELD IN KAZAKHSTAN

On March 12, 2020, the 6th International Student Forum was held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University’s Department of Oriental Studies in Kazakhstan. The purpose of this forum is for students to present social issues in the foreign language they are learning. The theme of this year’s forum was on “SDGs Goal No.9: Industry innovation and infrastructure in Japan and Kazakhstan”. Topics generally covered at the annual forum include foreign language learning methods, gender issues, tourism and other social problems.

2020年03月 :2020 RUSSIAN LANGUAGE TRAINING IN KAZAKHSTAN

From February 15 to March 8, 2020, 14 students from the University of Tsukuba and 11 students from the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies participated in a Russian language training course conducted at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) in Kazakhstan.

Apart from the language course, other activities such as sightseeing tours, lectures in Kazakh traditional cultures, and homestays were also organized for an enriching experience.

2020 年 2 月 18 日から3 月13 日にかけて、筑波大学の学生14名、東京外国語大学の学生11名がカザフ国立大学準備学部でロシア語研修を受けました。学生達は、ロシア語研修以外に、極東学科日本語講座が用意するコース、イベントに参加しました。本研修が用意したコース、イベントは以下の通りです。

2020年01月 :CIC DISCUSSION MEETINGS HELD AT KAZNU

On January 28, 2020, Prof. Higashi Teruo and Dr. Marko Stoic of the University of Tsukuba visited Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) to exchange views on the future development of the Campus-in-Campus program. They met with Prof. Burkitbayev Mukhambetlaki, First Vice-Rector; Prof. Ramazanov Tlekkabul, Vice-Rector for Research-Innovation Affairs; and Prof. Vitaliy Salnikov, Dean of the Faculty of Geography and Environment. They also discussed a joint research / education program for mountain research at the University of Tsukuba and KazNU. At the meeting, Prof. Alexander M. Artemyev, Head of the department of Recreation Geography and Tourism; Prof. Polyakova Svetlana, Head of the department of Meteorology and Hydrology; and Prof. Bazarbayeva Tursynkul, Head of UNESCO department, discussed their respective research topics.

2019年12月 :2ND WORLD EDUCATION FORUM HELD IN KAZAKHSTAN

On December 6, 2019, the 2nd World Education Forum organized by Qazaq Media Group was held at the Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University. About 150 primary and secondary school teachers in Kazakhstan participated in this event. Ninomiya Takashi of the University of Tsukuba Almaty Office at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University talked about the unique features of the Japanese education system, such as nutrition education and school cleaning voluntarily done by students. Outstanding teachers were provided scholarships by Ms. Medina Rei, one of the organizers.

2019年11月 :CAREER DESIGN CLASS: ABOUT WORKING ABROAD

On November 13, 2019, Ninomiya Takashi (Coordinator, University of Tsukuba Almaty Office) introduced his workplace to students via a live video talk as part of the “Introduction to Career Design” class at the University of Tsukuba. He talked about the working and living environment in Kazakhstan, his tasks and duties as coordinator as well as the appeal of working abroad and offered some advice. He also mentioned possible career paths for Kazakh students learning Japanese and Japanese students learning Russian. Students who attended the class inquired about the challenges of his job as coordinator.

2019年10月 :JAPAN STUDY FAIR IN KAZAKHSTAN

On October 27th and 29th, the Japan Study Fair organized by Kazakhstan-Japan Center for Human Development was held in Almaty and Nur-Sultan. The representative of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU), Ninomiya Takashi, who is an invited professor at the Faculty of Oriental Studies and a coordinator of the Almaty Office in the Uniniversity of Tsukuba, participated the study fair. One hundred fifty participants participated in the Almaty venue (at Almaty Hotel) and about 150 people participated in the Nur Sultan venue (at IQ coworking). As the coordinator of Almaty office, he explained English programs of International relations, IT, medicine and Japanese language courses at the University of Tsukuba. He also explained how to enter a Japanese language course at KazNU and then study abroad at a Japanese university, and how to enter a Japanese graduate school while studying at KazNU. Participants were not only high school students, university students, graduate students, but also the parents of the high school students.

2019年10月 :ART NIGHT IN KAZAKHSTAN

On October 25, 2019, an event called “Art Night” was held at the State Children’s Library named after Begalin. Ninomiya Takashi, a Japanese visiting professor of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University’s Department of the Far East, attended the event. He conducted trial lessons in origami. Along with Kazakh students having studied at the University of Tsukuba and Osaka University, students from Japan who were studying Russian at KazNU also took an active part in the lesson. Kazakh children were very pleased to make paper cranes with their own hands. The paper crane represents people’s wishes for peace. Aside from the paper crane, they also learned how to make the Samurai headdress “Kabuto”. The number of interested children was about 200. This event provided Japanese students the opportunity to practice the Russian language with Kazakh or Russian children.

2019年10月 :A VISIT TO KAZNU BY THE OFFICIAL REPRERESENTATIVES OF JAPANESE UNIVERSITIES

On October 10th, 2019, a delegation of officials representing a Japanese university and the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) visited the University of Tsukuba Almaty Office in the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Kazakh National University. The delegation included Prof. Nakamura Koichi of the Kyoto University of Advanced Sciences, Assistant Manager Tanaka Shigehiro, Chief Administrative Officer Sumiyoshi Soichi of JASSO, and Suzuki Michiko, Advisor. Representatives from Kazakh National University consisted of the head of the Japan Studies Division, Yerlan Akhapov, senior lecturer Samal Borankulova, and invited professor Ninomiya Takashi. The delegation from Japan inquired about the educational situation of Kazakh National University, the state of Japanese language education, the research system, the status of scholarships, the entrance examination status of Kazakhstan, and the status of exchange programs with Japanese universities. The delegation expressed their interest to cooperate with the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Kazakh National University and that Japanese universities would like to take advantage of such opportunities.

2019年10月 :INTERNATIONAL STUDY FAIR 2019

The International Study Fair 2019 sponsored by the Bolashaq Development Fund was held in Nur-Sultan, Shymkent, and Almaty from October 5th to October 12th. The representative of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Ninomiya Takashi – an invited professor at the Faculty of Oriental Studies, participated the study fair. A huge amount of high school students, university students, and graduate students participated in this exhibition. The number of participants was 10,000 people at Nur-Sultan, 16,000 at Shymkent, and 17,000 at Almaty. Many different universities participated in the exhibition, not only Japan, South Korea, China, Russia, but also about 300 universities from Europe have also taken part. The Almaty office of the University of Tsukuba explained general living conditions in Japan, introduction to faculties, and scholarships. It was also explained how to enter a Japanese language course at the Kazakh National University and then study abroad at a Japanese university, how to enter a Japanese graduate school while studying at the Kazakh National University. Participating students have a wide range of study fields, including computer science, engineering, international relations, business, medicine, and art design. The questions were mainly asked in English.

2019年09月 :WELCOMING STUDENTS TO THE JAPANESE LANGUAGE PROGRAM IN KAZAKHSTAN

On September 20, 2019, a welcome party was held for the freshmen who entered the Japanese language course at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. There are 16 freshmen including Japanese students, three from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies and two from Kobe City University of Foreign Studies. At the welcome party, Kazakh students who had studied at the University of Tsukuba, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, and Waseda University shared their study abroad experiences. On that day, Vice President Caroline F. Benton, Prof. Higashi Teruo, and Prof. Ono Masaki from the University of Tsukuba participated as special guests.

On September 9-10, 2019, two officials of the Academic Service Office for the Library, Information and Media Sciences Area of the University of Tsukuba (Ms. DAITOKU Akiko and Ms. ONO Tomoko) visited the departments of student support services, entrance examination, and education at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and had meetings with several administrators of the said departments. They also visited the Kazakhstan-Japan Center for Human Development in Almaty.

2019年05月 :ONLINE CONFERENCE HELD BETWEEN THE UNIVERSITY OF TSUKUBA AND AL-FARABI KAZAKH NATIONAL UNIVERSITY

The Online Conference between the University of Tsukuba and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) was held by Prof. Masaki Ono, director of Almaty Office, University of Tsukuba, at the Kazakh National University Headquarters Building on May 8, 2019.

Prof. Ono gave a lecture in “pragmatic research and Japanese language education” to faculty members and graduate students of KazNU. Lecture contents included the following: current situation of foreigners accepted in Japan, the history of foreign language education, interlanguages, pragmatics, and simple Japanese language.

2019年04月 :JAPAN WEEK 2019 IN KAZAKHSTAN

The Department of Oriental Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) organized “Japan Week” on February 19 – March 4, 2019 for Japanese language students and exchange students from Japan.

Highlights of this year’s activities included lectures given by Yasuda Toru of Mitsubishi Corporation, roundtable discussions co-sponsored by Kochi University, a Japanese speech contest, and an excursion to the ruins of Tanbaly Tas, a World Heritage site.

2019年04月 :2019 RUSSIAN LANGUAGE TRAINING IN KAZAKHSTAN

2018年05月 :KAZNU ENTERED THE TOP 220 WORLD UNIVERSITIES

For the first time, Kazakhstan’s University – Al-Farabi KazNU entered the top 220 among the 800 best universities in the world, by moving forward to another 16 positions in the international ranking of QS World University Rankings. Only two universities in the post-Soviet space have joined this group – KazNU and Lomonosov Moscow State University (RF). 2018年05月 :SUMMER SCHOOL 2018 ON JAPANESE LANGUAGE AND CULTURE HELD IN ALMATY

The Summer School on Japanese language and culture was again held this year at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) on May 21-22, 2018. This program has been held annually since 2016. Approximately 20 high school students from the city of Almaty participated in the two-day program. Faculty and undergraduate Japanese language students of KazNU conducted the lectures on Japanese language and culture.

On the first day

On the second day

Undergraduate Japanese language students who have studied abroad in partner universities of KazNU such as University of Tsukuba, Hokkaido University, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Waseda University, etc. shared their study experiences in Japan.

2018年03月 :ORIENTAL STUDIES OLYMPICS 2018 HELD IN KAZAKHSTAN

On March 29-30, 2018, the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) organized the “Oriental Studies Olympics 2018”. This competition is held every year and open to students who are studying the social, historical, and cultural aspects of oriental countries (such as Turkey, India, China, Korea, and Japan) at the Oriental Studies Departments in Kazakh higher educational institutions.

Participating students took paper tests on Japanese history, society, politics, and economics, and the highest pointers among them would give presentations. Kuatova Khanymai, a sophomore at KazNU, gave a presentation on “Measures for Earthquakes in Japan” which landed her second place in this event. In addition to certificates, prizes were awarded to those students who obtained excellent scores by sponsoring colleges, companies, embassies, among others. As one of the sponsors of this event, the University of Tsukuba provided original goods to students who achieved excellent results in the Japanese division.

 

2018年03月 :JAPAN WEEK 2018 IN KAZAKHSTAN

The Department of Oriental Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) organized a cultural week for each department. Once again, the Department of the Far East hosted ‘Japan Week’ on March 9 – 16, 2018. Highlights of this year’s activities included the International Student Forum, Japanese food culture day, and an excursion to Tamgaly, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

2018年03月 :4TH INTERNATIONAL STUDENT FORUM HELD IN KAZAKHSTAN

On March 9, 2018, the 4th International Student Forum was held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University’s Department of Oriental Studies in Kazakhstan. The theme of this year’s forum was on cross-cultural understanding and stereotypes. Topics generally covered at the annual forum are the following: foreign language learning methods, gender issues, and other social problems.

2018年03月 :2018 RUSSIAN LANGUAGE TRAINING IN KAZAKHSTAN

During the period from February 17 to March 11, 2018, four students from the University of Tsukuba participated in Russian language training course conducted at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) in Kazakhstan. This program has been held every year since 2015. Apart from the language course, other activities such as sightseeing tours, lectures about traditional cultures in Kazakhstan, homestays, among others, were also organized for an enriching experience. On the last day of the training, students were awarded a certificate of completion from Ms.Yem Natalya, Head of Department of the Far East at the university.

2ND ONLINE CONFERENCE HELD BETWEEN UNIVERSITY OF TSUKUBA AND AL-FARABI KAZAKH NATIONAL UNIVERSITY

The 2nd Online Conference between University of Tsukuba and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU), held from 18:00-19:00 (Kazakhstan time 15:00-16:00) on January 26, 2018, was organized by the University of Tsukuba Almaty Office. Prof. Natalya Yem, Head of Department of the Far East at KazNU, and Prof. Masaki Ono, Regional Director for Central Asia at University of Tsukuba, made opening speeches, followed by presentations from faculty members and graduate students from each university.

The online conference is a good opportunity for KazNU’s faculty members to learn Academic Japanese skills.

STUDY IN JAPAN FAIR 2017 HELD IN KAZAKHSTAN

On October 21-22, 2017, University of Tsukuba and Yamanashi Gakuin University joined the Study in Japan Fair held at two venues: Almaty’s Japan Center and the Astana Mall. Approximately 150 participants participated in Almaty, and about 200 students in Astana.

The University of Tsukuba was represented by Takashi Ninomiya, coordinator of University of Tsukuba’s Almaty Office, who introduced the programs taught in English such as the Human Biology Program and the Bachelor Program in Global Issues, etc., as well as the Japan-Expert Program. He also talked about exchange programs and procedures.

STUDY IN JAPAN MEETING HELD IN KAZAKHSTAN

On October 25, 2017, students of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) Japanese course shared their study abroad experiences to their juniors. Borankukova Samal, a senior lecturer at KazNU, talked about the procedures and preparation required for studying in Japan. The participating students talked about their experiences at the Japanese university where they went: Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Waseda University, Saitama University, and the University of Tsukuba. One of the students who stayed in Japan for a week presented about the MIRAI Program.

SPECIAL JAPANESE CLASSES HELD IN KAZAKH HIGH SCHOOLS

With the support of The Japan Foundation, special Japanese language classes were held at local city schools in Kazakhstan on October 25-26, 2017. Japanese language teachers of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) introduced the University of Tsukuba and its English degree programs as well as Japanese language and culture to high schools in Kazakhstan. This year, they visited Semey City in the northeastern part, Kyzylorda City in the southern part, and Oskemen City in the eastern part of Kazakhstan.

JAPANESE SPEECH CONTEST FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS HELD IN MOSCOW

On October 30, 2017, the 30th International Student Japanese Speech Contest was held at the Russian State Library in Moscow. College students from Russia, Turkmenistan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan joined the contest.

Ms. Mukanova Alima, a Japanese language student at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University’s Faculty of Oriental Studies, placed sixth.
